Kate Carter recommends a little something to brighten up every day of the week. Check back each day for the next suggestion

Friday

T-shirt, £18, from Asos.com

Everyone's favourite online fashion store Asos have teamed up with the London College of Fashion to design a one-off T-shirt for the Jeans for Genes charity. The result is this very stylish ribbon and chain print top by first year illustration student Elise Mary Yasmin Pellican: great name, great design. The charity itself supports children with genetic disorders, and all proceeds from the sale will go to it.

Thursday

Canvas and leather bag, £170, by Veja at Darkroom

Veja have branched out from lovely stylish simple trainers to bags - this range is exclusive to the rather fabulous Darkroom boutique on Lams Conduit Street (last non-homogenised street in Central London? Discuss). Using organic cotton, wild rubber, vegetable-tanned leather - the company's ethical credentials are impeccable. Expensive, yes, but highly durable and hey, it's never too early to start stocking up on Christmas presents. Particularly if they are for yourself.

Wednesday

Aesop exfoliating paste, £26, from beautyexpert.co.uk

If you've not yet discovered Australia's brilliant Aesop range, buy of the day highly recommends it. This exfoliator is gentle but thorough, and although the price may seem quite steep, a tube lasts an inordinately long time. The haircare range is also very high quality and again, a little goes a very long way.

Tuesday

Baby slippers, £30, by Camper

Growing up sucks. You have to go out, get a job, act responsibly, stop climbing all over the furniture and leaving your mucky handprints on the TV, you're not allowed to howl any more because someone stole your toy and you don't get to wear cute rabbit slippers. Not if you want to be thought of as in any way normal, anyway. Buy these for someone small and cute then, and relive your lost youth while feeling just a teeny bit jealous.

Monday

LCN nail varnish, £5.30, from beautyconcepts.co.uk

Buy of the day was recently horrified to learn that people actually queued - yes queued - for the latest 'must-have' Chanel nail polish, and that it changed hands (nails?) on eBay for a small fortune. Save yourself said fortune, then, and buy a nail varnish for just over a fiver that's brilliant quality and has more shades than a Dulux showroom. LCN's new range launches this September - our favourite shades are 'paparazzi' (the deep blue above) and 'dark room' (gothic black, Twilight DVD not included).

Friday

Rucksack for Apple, £139.50, by Ally Capellino in selected Apple stores

Today's Buy of the Day answers that longstanding question: what does the well-dressed laptop wear? Why, Ally Capellino, of course! It's not cheap, but Capellino bags are super high-quality and built to last - so you'll probably still be using this when the laptop itself is obsolete. It comes in the four colours shown, and is designed for the 13" MacBook, iPad and MacBook Air.

Thursday

Babygrow, £20, by Original Penguin

Anyone for tennis? Clearly, dressing yourself in whites is just a bit weird, but dressing your baby in them is cute. Don't quibble, it just is. This sweet vest from Original Penguin is just the ticket for a small fan of the game. And as an added bonus, if yesterday's epic match at Wimbledon goes on much longer, it's duration will actually be the same as the sizes available.

Wednesday

Shorts, £65, By Lee

These may be the perfect summer holiday/ dress down shorts - short, but not too short, fitting, but not too tight, nice neutral colour so they go with everything. And look, there is even sunshine and warmth today to accessorise them with.

Tuesday

Tribal necklace, £12, by Traidcraft

Traidcraft's online shop is a great place for gift shopping, though if you can get past the Fairtrade chocolate without putting it into your virtual basket, you are a stronger shopper than me. This tribal necklace is a bargain at a mere £12 - and is, of course, Fairtrade.

Monday

Nail varnish, £7.50, from Marks & Spencers

Did you know that people actually QUEUED for the last "must-have" Chanel nail polish? For hours. I'm pretty sure that's a precusor for the end of civilisation as we know it. I mean, did these foolish people not know that M&S nail varnishes are a fraction of the price, have some very on-trend colours (grey nails were all over the autumn/winter 2010 catwalks, people), and are impressively chip-resistant?

Friday

Dress, £16, by People Tree

A very sweet piggy print dress for little girls, perfect for summer - or you could stick a long-sleeved vest and leggings underneath for less than ideal weather. It's also very reasonably priced considering it's organic, Fairtrade cotton. The animal print reversible sun hats are also a lovely summery buy.

Thursday

Set of four mugs, £40, by Cornishware

The iconic blue and white stripes of Cornishware have recently been revived after the factory was forced into administration in 2007. Three cheers for a story of triumph over adversity then, and more importantly a big thumbs up for the whole lovely range, from eggcups to pudding bowls. These mugs come in a set of four, in two different colourways.

Wednesday

Poppy print purse, £20, from Liberty

Parisian concept store Merci have teamed up with our very own Liberty for a collection of limited edition pieces. The gorgeous mini case has already been snapped up (I'm sobbing into my Liberty hanky) but you can still get your hands on plenty of other treats, including this lovely poppy print purse. The range includes everything from envelopes to a baby bib via fabulous floral print sundresses.

Tuesday

Lemon tree with pot of curd, £25 (excluding delivery), from Plants4Presents

A lovely gift for Mothers Day, this young lemon tree comes with a pot of lemon curd (and if you don't know what to do with that, Nigel Slater can help). Order quick smart to get delivery for your mum.

Monday

Hand cream, £17.95, from OP Therapy

When the press release landed on my desk, I confess to thinking "emu oil" must be some kind of plant extract. But no, it really does come from emus, who naturally secrete it under their feathers. This hand lotion is lovely, thick, non-greasy and leaves your hands smelling wonderful. Slightly biscuity, slightly vanillay: very nice. Unless you're an emu, of course.
